A holistic approach

I approach my work with a systemic mindset, positive business value framework and supporting toolbox.

Systemic mindset

Each organization is the collective of many different building blocks such as teams, functions, people, systems, policies, budgets, metrics. These blocks are interconnected. And influence each other. That dynamic determines to a large extent the success of your organizational change. Therefore, I want to understand how individual parts connect into and interact inside the whole. These insights guide us towards future-proof solutions.

The main pillars underlying my systemic mindset are:

  • Cohesion (purpose)

  • Autonomy (decentralization)

  • Transparency (open communication)

  • Effective change (cooperation)

  • Adaptability (futuring)

Positive business value framework

I have identified 10 elements that are fundamental to organizational change and brought them together in our positive business value framework. These elements build upon and continuously shape each other. Also, their design is unique to each organization. Hence the need for a holistic and tailored approach.

The 3 layers of the framework represent design, journey, impact.

At the core of the framework lies organizational impact. This is the positive business value created by an organization as understood by its stakeholders. Value creation and impact are therefore best understood through the lens of different stakeholders and for different time-horizons.

The middle layer, journey, is where you choose the kind of value created. And the path towards that value. This helps navigate continuous turbulence and asymmetric recovery set in motion by the next normals and ever shifting bars.

The outer layer, design, contains the main organizational levers for a successful organizational change.

Supporting toolbox

I see value in frameworks, methodologies, canvasses, ways of work. They help create a common understanding. Applied in a dogmatic or one size fits all manner, these tools will divide and hinder. Therefore, for me context is leading. I will choose with care the tools that I believe will make a difference. Some of those tools could be:

  • Purpose-driven business canvasses and roadmap formats

  • Agile ways of work - such as Scrum, SAFe and DevOps -, lean methodologies, quality frameworks and project management systems.

  • Collaboration tools to design and lead effective sessions

  • Communication tools such as strategic narrative, storytelling, visualization

  • Assessment tools and metrics. For instance, for stakeholder engagement

  • Team building tools to build high performance teams and enable cohesive decentralization

Next step

To me it’s a thrill to turn gridlock into flow and accelerate meaningful growth.
